A CALENDAR FOR SEASONal FRUIT & VEG

This 14 page accordion book reads as A Calendar for Seasonal Fruit & Veg in a Generally Temperate Climate when read from one side, and as A Year in Simple Seasonal Recipes for Your Plate & Pantry when read from the other. The idea behind this book was a to create a resource to help guide anyone with an interest in eating seasonally in a generally temperate climate, whether shopping locally or growing food themselves. This piece was inspired by growing up eating from my family’s vegetable garden and working at farmer’s markets on the East side of the Puget Sound. Living in a place with such a mild climate as Western Washington allows for a diverse harvest of fruits and vegetables throughout the year, and the practice of eating in season with those rolling harvests is a very educational and rewarding experience. I hope that this booklet will inspire people to take an interest in seasonal eating, and discover it as a vehicle for learning about local climates, the process of growing food, and creative cooking.

Each page of the book measures 4”x4” and when stretched out completely the book measures 60” in length. It includes 12 recipes (one for every month), 12 brightly colored illustrative calendar pages, and several pages of text giving background and explanation on the book’s various components.
